UN Special Forces' Dinghies Land In Chicago

Reported February 7, 1997
Chicago, Illinois USA

A couple nights ago, my wife and I went for a stroll by the lakefront here in Chicago -- it's so pretty when ice starts forming and there's snow on the beach. Then we heard this muffled buzzing noise and a bunch of dinghies approached. The rafts were light blue and said UNSF on them. My wife screamed when men jumped out onto the beach -- with guns.

An UNSF officer (he later told UNSF stands for UN Special Forces) approached us while motioning us to be quiet. He spoke English with a very heavy accent that sounded Scandinavian to me. I asked whether some kind of conflict had been declared and what in the world were UN troops doing landing in Chicago. He told me not to worry, that they were just practicing. Sven (that was his name) and his aide-de-camps (Ahmed and Hernando) told me "We have to be ready for anything. Nothing to worry."

As they got back in their dinghies, I noticed that one soldier had written on his blue helmet: "Operation Avenge Boutros."

I went back to the beach the next night with my camera and got pictures (there were barges this time) -- Chicago's skyline [click here to see picture] can clearly be seen in the background -- and a group of soldiers posed for me [see picture above] as they planted the UN flag on Chicago's North Avenue Beach. Again, it was night and I developed these myself, so forgive me if the quality leaves something to be desired...

Should I be reporting this to the authorities?
